Late For School

It's a well known fact (at least it should be considering how often it has been mentioned) that school is held on Saturdays. It is also a well known fact that trains don't run as often on Saturdays. Unfortunately, I didn't know this particular fact quite well enough, and as I arrived at the station seeing my train speeding off I found I had a crucial fifteen minutes until the next one. Trains on the whole were a bit further between, but I wasn't worried as the final train had other students as well. Only when they burst out of the train at a run did I realise: "Oh... right!"

I hurried to join them but I wasn't worried, my home room teacher is always at least 10 minutes late for the start of the day. So I slowed down to talk to some stragglers, but soon they broke into a run, and considering their judgement better than mine, followed suit. The school gate was within out site when the bell rang, its tune never before filled with such ominous doom. It hadn't even finished ringing when we got to it, but it was too late, the teachers guarding the gate readying their scolding words. One of them laughed as he se me, presumably realising that a lecture would me somewhat wasted on me. I was handed a slip of paper to be filled by my home room teacher.

As I walked to the second years entrance, I heard some students cheering at me from the high windows. Now I realise why there are always a few fellows at the class windows in the mornings. I waved back at them, grinning, knowing that a few badass points from the school scallywags is never a bad thing. In class I realised I could just "forget" to hand in the slip, but exchanged it for a friendly smack anyway.

Badass points, heehee. Nice term, though I certainly don't have many of those.

I don't know why, but judging by your posts up until now it seems that everyday school life in Japan doesn't differ so much from the way it's being portrayed in anime. While this may be my own personal perception of your words, as a first year student at my school, I can full-heartedly say that I wouldn't mind to live this way. :)

Fairly true, the only regrettable thing about my school is that it is quite strick in regards to uniform. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that most schools do allow girls to make up and hitch up their skirts ridiculously high. Just take a walk in Shibuya on a weekend afternoon and you'll see what I mean.

I think what may differ a lot in anime is the people and the way they behave. However, one thing that is true is that women often speak in a cute high pitched voice, I don't know if I've mentioned that before, and do do their best to be feminine.

The great thing is that as much as I was expecting to tell all you Japanophiles that Japan really isnt that great, I was wrong - it's great! I mean, it's not all perfect, but if you don't have any exaggerated preconceptions then I think most people would like it.

I wouldn't "forget" to turn in the paper. It would be the bad for my student - teacher reputation. But the result of being "good" is that i'm quite unpopular in the school. Never mind, they're all smoking bad asses.
