Cherry Blossoms
In order to truly consider my blog one on Japan, I must obviously write something about the cherry blossoms. For those who have never heard of Japan, Sakura means Cherry Blossom. A surprisingly pansy name for the many bad ass Japanese femmes in movies and games. But I must admit that all the fuss isn’t for nothing, as I can now safely say that the cherry blossom is my favourite flower (Never thought I would have a ’favourite flower’, quite a hit to my ego to be honest.) namely because it is the only flower that has ever made an impression on me.
Very close to our house runs a road called, quite imaginatively, the ’Cherry Blossom Road’. This is a relatively wide road, flanked on boths sides by cherry blossom trees turning it into a large, pink tunnel. Yesterday and the day before that was the Sakura matsuri, the Cherry Blossom festival, which featured typical carneval stalls as well as traditional Japanese festival food stalls, like the Takoyaki (Octopuss balls) stall below.
While there with my brother I also fell ”victim” to some excitable female friends of his who were overwhelmed by my foreign coolness and obviously had to take a picture with me. In hindsight I should’ve given them an e-mail or something to send the picture to. A picture of me flanked by two random Japanese chicks would have made a nice souvenir. Ah well, I suppose I will be getting enough of them anyway.
